Truman Annex & Fort Zachary Taylor
This chapter of TimeFlies wanders the quiet western edge of Key West, from Harry Truman's Little White House through the old streets and stables of the Truman Annex. The timelapse cameras linger on the retired Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, now a floating museum, then move through the brick casemates of Fort Zachary Taylor before ending with a swim at the beach and live music at the Truman Waterfront amphitheater. It is the most history-dense corner of the island, filmed over several years in shifting light.

The first stop is the Truman Annex. This is where President Harry S. Truman spent his winters at his "Little White House." We learned all about its history and got a glimpse into the life of a president on vacation!
Next, we headed to Matthew L. Gilleran Field and the Dr. Nancy Foster Environmental Complex. Here, we saw how Key West works hard to protect its environment. We also checked out the retired US Coast Guard Cutter Ingham, a ship-turned-museum that lets you see how the Coast Guard keeps us safe.
After a morning full of history, we took a trip back in time to Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park. This impressive, well-preserved fort gives a fascinating look at Key West's past.
Of course, no Key West trip is complete without hitting the beach! We relaxed on the beautiful white sand and swam in the clear blue water at Fort Zachary Beach. It was the perfect way to cool off after a busy day.
At last, we soaked up the fun vibes of Key West with some live music at the outdoor amphitheater at Truman Waterfront Park. It was the perfect way to end a day filled with history, learn about the environment, and feel the unique energy of this special place!
